Main Task: Unmanipulated photos
I have decided not to use this picture as my contents page because
it is not as close-up as i want it to be.
I have decided not to use this picture as my front cover because the floor shows and the writing shows.
I have decided to use this picture as my double page spread because the lighting is good and the position of the image.
I have decided to use this picture for my contents page because of the type of shot (close up).
I have also decided to use this picture as my contents page aswell because the lighting and the postion is good.
This will be my front cover image as the postion and shot is good.
Main Task: Profiling your Audience
The Pop beat READER Alicia age 19, is a passionate and intense fan of music. She was first inspired by music in the 90’s especially pop. Her famous idol is ‘Madonna’ (Formal queen of pop) and was inspired by her ways of singing. She works as a backing singer in parties and claims that life is quite tough for her but she is independent and helps her family as much as she can. She buys up to 10 albums per month, Artists such as: Lady gaga, The Saturdays, Katy Perry and many more. She reads Billboard magazine constantly at least buying it every month. She is a ‘party’ girl and loves it when her favourite songs come on. Alicia enjoys listening to music on her iPod, dancing, singing in her spare time and watching TV. She is an outgoing young woman and enjoys discovering new music.
Main Task: Case study of a Publishing House
Harris PublishingThis magazine company publishes magazines such as:
· Sugar producer,
· Playground,
· Western turf and many others.
The company’s publications include boating, golf, trucks; snowmobiling was added through the years. Harris publishing is also well known for its writing design and photography. In the years they have also partnered with the leading digital and the print fulfilment Company.
The audience that this specific publishing company is aimed at would be men and people who are interested in sports and adventures .
The company seeks to apply talent, skills of their employees to make their magazine number one. Even women who have a sports interest may likely to be interested in the company’s magazines such as Playground, Snowest, Silver wave and others. Those who want to travel to places where they use snowmobiles, do golf and all sorts would be interested in the types of magazines which Harris Publishing publishes. There are many more readers who would be interested such as people who enjoy cooking, there are many more.
The company may be targeting different audiences to the types of magazines so that there are a variety of people who would by their magazines and if a majority of people by the magazines that Harris publishes, then they would make a lot more profit, and the money they get will increase much more rapidly. The more the readers, the more money they gain. Not everyone has the same interests on a certain magazines.
The mission statement they made was that ‘Our Company seeks readers and advertising for our magazines and seeks to keep them for as long as we meet, or exceed, their needs. 'We publish magazines, but we market advertising results through interested and satisfied readers’.
Harris Publishing, Inc also owns Falls Printing, LLC. Harris publishing are also continuing to align their publications, there websites, events and marketing in ways which will meet the needs of their client needs.
The company is currently doing special events for many audiences including:

· On the water Expo
· Intermountain
· Snowmobile Show
· Mountain West Golf Expo
Harris publishing is an American consumer publisher in New York that publishes over 75 titles. The publishing company has been around since 1950. They have also published a variety of comic books such as Vampirella, Rooky, creepy and cyber frog.
Harris Publications was founded in 1977 by Stanley R.Harris who had been in the magazine publishing business. The pulp publisher Myron Fass (Harris’s father William invented the Harris press, a printing press which is still used today.
Harris was co-owner of Myron Fass Enterprises form 1964-1978 leaving after multiple disputes with his business partner.
One of Harris Publications first successful and long-running titles was ‘guitar world’, which it published at the beginning of 1980, before selling the property to future us in 2003.
The publishing company would want to distribute my magazine because it adds to the variety of genres that this publishing house publishes for and if this happens, many more people would want to read the magazine.

1. What colour theme should i use for the magazine?

Evaluation
I asked about 7 people a few questions about how the music magazine should look (pop).
I found out that I should use a normal font for the masthead of my magazine such as times roman/cambria I also found out i should use subheadings and bold writing and a large font size.
The colour that was suggested the most was purple and blue but pastle colours was also mentioned such as pink, orange and yellow (bright colours)
Main Task: Double page spread Textual Analysis
Denotation
We can see a young woman (Katy Perry) wearing stylish clothes wearing black and other colours, orange, green. Her make up is bright but simple. (Signifying happiness). There is an apple on top of her head which shows us that she can balance things out maybe with her life. She is wearing orange heels denoting power and fun which links in to her genre of music. The other image of her as a baby is behind a star which represents her as a star now.
The costume seems to be less provocative than her past dresses. The two main images show her wearing short dresses showing some legs as well as the dresses being body cons, it tells us that these types of dresses could be her favourite dresses.
On the left hand side of the double page spread there is money surrounding Katy (prop) which denotes wealth, it tells us that she is rich also linking to the title ‘Cash for questions’. On the right hand side of the double page spread, is an apple on top of her head which denotes balance it could be referring to her life or her money.
The lighting is in high key lighting which represents her mood. The lighting contrasts with what she is wearing but matches her complexion.
(NVC) Her facial expressions are seen as ‘innocent’ (right hand side) and sassy (left hand side) the ‘innocent’ expression represents the picture of her as a baby whilst the ‘sassy’ expression represents her now. She is posing in a dominant way showing power and femininity. Her lips are opened to show femininity. Her pose on the left hand side looks as if she is going to trip representing the amount of money she has. (too much she is ‘falling’)
The two pictures of her are in the middle of the columns focusing on her. Her quote: ‘My mum and Jimi Hendrix had a night in Spain’ links with the picture of Jimi Hendrix.
The headline represents Katy’s costume. The word ‘cash’ has been highlighted in bold rather than ‘for questions’ it tells us that that could be her main focus also highlighting the fact that the ‘money’ is shaped as the number, ‘1’ (left hand side beside Katy).
All the colours used on the double page spread links into what she is wearing.
The main image on the left hand side of the double page spread is positioned under the headline ‘cash for questions’ connoting she has a love for cash.
The colours red, green, orange and black are used for the theme colours and also link in to what she is wearing. This is a slight change for her because she normally wears just bright colours.
Main Task: Front cover Textual Analysis
Denotation
This is a medium long shot of a young woman looking bright with colourful make up which links with the background colour used. Her purple dress is short and consists of flowers which are attached unto her. The masthead is in contrast with the background colour but matches her ‘Jet black’ hair. Her skin has a bright complexion which also matches the background colour (pink). The young woman is in front of the masthead. The coverlines are in a smaller font size than the name (in black).
Masthead
The Masthead is called ‘Billboard’ which was originally called ‘Billboard advertising’ it was a trade paper for the Bill posting industry. The Masthead three colours on it which is red, blue and yellow which are primary colours. Billboard mainly consists of pop, rock and R&B which could highlight the fact why there are three primary colours used.
Main Cover line
The font of the main coverline is in a larger font than the actual coverline. The word ’Katy Perry’ which is in a bold and dark colour links with the image because they are both the main attention people will first look at. The way the name ‘Katy Perry’ has been written is in a Fancy and feminine font which matches the way the young woman poses. (Anchorage). Then we have (under the name) the coverline which is in white and contrasts with the name because of the colour ‘The new queen of pop’ statement highlights the image and the name meaning that the name is important.
Character
The main image is Katy Perry the Californian pop singer
Composition
The singer is posed in a very feminine/girly way also in a flirtatious position; her clothing is ‘pretty like’ a bit ‘childish like’ mainly because of the patterned flowers on her clothing.
Cover line
The main cover line says ‘inside the court of the new queen of pop’ meaning Katy Perry is replacing the formal ‘ Queen of pop’ which was Female singer Madonna. Artists which are mentioned in the cover lines include: Mike Posner, Taylor Swift, Eminem, New boys and Jerrod Niemann. The colour of the headings of each cover line is yellow except from Singer Katy Perry (main cover line).
Target Audience
The main audience that this magazine would attract would be young girls/young women. Once they see this picture they would automatically want to be like her however, men also would be slightly attracted but would not be as much because she isn’t wearing provocative clothing although her clothing is short it would be seen as ‘cute’.
Props
In this case, Katy is holding flowers which relates to her clothing. The flowers seem like they are attracted to her which denotes that maybe people are attracted to her. (Mainly young girls).
Lighting
The lightings used is high key lighting to show brightness and happiness which relates to the props used as well as the clothing.
Costume
Her clothing is seen as ‘childlike’ and very ‘pretty’ which carefully appeals to the Target audience and the shape of the dress matches how the flowers look meaning she’s the ‘queen of flowers’ relating to the fact that she is the New Queen of Pop.
