Induction:Movie poster Textual Analysis

Dennotation: I see a man with a weapon
Connotation: It tells us that the movie will be an adventorous movie.(he looks heroic)

SETTING
He is in a cave/tomb

COSTUME
His clothes look dirty and ragged which tells us he's in for a very adventrous ride. It tells us he'll be doing a lot of seeking for maybe treasure.

PROPS
The guy is holding a whip and a gun which connotes that he'll be in quite a lot of fights and trouble.

LIGHTINGS
We can see that the lightings used in this poster must be low-key lightings because it has a dark compexion. The low key lighting must have been used because if he is in a cave, it has to be dark. Caves don't normally need light.

NVC (NON-VERBAL COMMUNICATION)

• facial expression : he looks very serious which tells us he's going to be a tough person to deal with



• Body language: he's positioned in a rather 'statued pose' which makes him look courageous and have great authority. (his arms are postioned very tightly with fists closed to show he is ready for any trouble).

ANCHORAGE

The text of the title is similiar to to the text in the comic books which tells us the film might have some humour and it looks formal. I think that the text links in to how the character may act like.

CONCLUSION

Overall, I think the film will be an adventrous film and a comedy with a lot of fighting included.

Preliminary Task: Front cover Textual Analysis

TITLE

The title is bold and bright (yellow). The title catches the reader's attention. The title matches the colours used in the magazine which gives it an creative effect. It's not dull colours which are used in the magazine but bright colours which connotes it is an education/creative magazine.

PROP
Wearing glasses dennotes education and stereotypically 'being smart' is if you wear glasses. so the girl who wears it is combining education and style.

COSTUME
The girl on the front cover is wearing 'cool' clothes which tends to be the trend in college but wisely wears glasses to combine the two.

DESIGNS
The designs are creative (younger people like creative things) and electrical devices are the new cool for teens.(pictures used in colour).

ANHCORAGE
I feel that the text links to the girl on the front cover because it's a girl colour but there is a slight bit of blue which tells us this college magazine could be for both boys and girls. The text links with who this magazine is aimed at which is college students.e.g. 'schools' is written in a 'young/creative' font which makes the magazine look intresting and eye-catching.

COLOUR
There's mixtures of colours which are used in the magazine appears to make the magazine colourful which catches the attention of young people e.g. blue,white,green,pink and other colours.

NVC
The girl's expression is made to look cool and sophisticated.

Languge devices
The use of alliteration triggers young people to think hard. It can also be used to persuade. e.g.'explore .enjoy.and protect the planet' it's like a catchy slogan or motto. (underneath title).

Induction Re-creation of a Movie Magazine Front Cover

This was my first task for as media studies and i found it fairly straightforward, it was fun and i really enjoyed it. My favourite part was choosing the colours and posterizing it a bit. This was a creative task.

I feel that what i could do better was to add a bit more to the layout.

One thing that was annoying was the text tool because each time i'd write the text it was quite annoying to find the moving text tool.
